Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between gazetted and restricted holidays?
Gazetted holidays are compulsory closures for Central Government offices. Restricted holidays are optional: employees may choose any two in a year.
When is Diwali 2026?
Diwali (Deepavali) is on Sunday, 8 November 2026. In 2027 it falls on Friday, 29 October.
Are these holidays the same in every state?
The 14 national holidays are the same. Three festival holidays and state government holidays vary by state, and Id dates can change with moon sighting.
