Fixes garbled text from old Windows programs and other systems. Excel opens UTF-8 CSV files correctly only with a BOM, so choose “UTF-8 with BOM” for CSVs containing ₹ or Indian scripts.

How to use Text Encoding Converter

  1. Choose the file.
  2. Check the preview; change the source encoding if text looks wrong.
  3. Pick UTF-8 (with BOM for Excel) and download.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I see é instead of é?

The file was saved in one encoding and opened as another. Choosing the right source encoding here fixes it.

What is a BOM?

A byte-order mark at the start of the file. Excel needs it to recognise UTF-8 CSVs correctly.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Files are read and processed by your browser on your own device, so there is no upload wait and no size limit set by a server.
