Frequently asked questions
How much can images be compressed?
Phone photos usually shrink by 60–90% at 70% quality. PNG screenshots shrink 50–80% with colour reduction. Converting to WebP saves a further 25–35% compared with JPG.
Will compression reduce quality?
JPG and WebP compression is lossy, but at 70–80% quality the difference is hard to see. Use the quality slider and compare the result before downloading.
Why did my PNG get bigger?
Canvas re-encoding can enlarge already optimised files. The tool keeps your original when compression would make it larger, unless you untick that option.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The image is processed by your own browser. It never leaves your phone or computer, so it is safe for ID photos and personal pictures.
