Frequently asked questions

How accurate is a GPS speedometer?

Outdoors with a clear view of the sky, phone GPS is usually accurate to within 1–2 km/h at steady speeds. It is often more accurate than a car’s speedometer, which normally reads a little high.

Why does it show 0 or no speed?

GPS needs a clear view of the sky. Indoors, in tunnels or between tall buildings the signal is weak. Laptops and desktops usually have no GPS and estimate location from Wi-Fi, so they can’t measure speed.

Does it work in a train or plane?

In a train, yes, near a window. In a plane, GPS often works next to the window, and speeds of several hundred km/h are shown.

Does it use mobile data or share my location?

No. GPS works without internet once the page is loaded, and your location is processed only in your browser. Nothing is sent or stored.

What is HUD mode?

HUD mode shows large mirrored numbers. Place the phone flat on the dashboard at night and the speed reflects on the windshield so you can read it without looking down.
