Frequently asked questions
How accurate are these sunrise and sunset times?
Within about a minute. They are calculated with NOAA’s solar equations for a flat horizon; hills, buildings and your elevation can shift what you see by a few minutes.
What is golden hour?
The period just after sunrise and before sunset when the sun is low (between 6° above and 4° below the horizon), giving soft, warm light that photographers love.
What is civil twilight?
The time before sunrise and after sunset when the sun is less than 6° below the horizon and there is still enough natural light for most outdoor activities.
Why does day length change through the year?
Earth’s axis is tilted, so the sun’s path changes with the seasons. In India the longest day is around 21 June and the shortest around 21 December.
