Frequently asked questions
How do I compress a video to a specific size?
Choose “Target file size”, enter the size in MB and keep the resolution on Automatic. The bitrate is calculated from the video length, so the result is usually within a few percent of the target.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Compression uses your browser’s built-in video encoder (WebCodecs), so the video never leaves your device. This also means there is no file size limit apart from your device’s memory.
Why is compression slow on my phone?
Re-encoding video is heavy work. A one-minute 1080p clip takes from a few seconds on a recent laptop to a minute or more on older phones. Lowering the resolution makes it faster.
Which browsers are supported?
Recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Very old browsers without WebCodecs can’t re-encode video.
